Your Wedding Questions Answered

What is required to get married in Jamaica?

For your marriage to be legal, you will need to obtain a marriage licence before your wedding ceremony. It can be a same-day process if requested before 12 pm. The licence is valid for three months.

What does it cost?

Your marriage licence requires a processing fee of JM$4000.

What if I’m travelling from another country?

If you are arriving from another country, you will need to make sure you are on the island at least 24 hours before your wedding ceremony. Make sure you bring the following documentation with you:

  • Valid picture identification in the form of a passport, driver’s licence, or Jamaican national identification card
  • Birth certificates
  • Final divorce decree, decree absolute, or divorce certificate if applicable
  • Death certificate of former spouse if applicable
  • Documents supporting any change of name if applicable
  • If you are 16 or 17 years of age, you will need a Letter of Consent from your parent or legal guardian that has been signed in the presence of and certified by a JP or a public notary for overseas parties if applicable.
What if my documents are in a language other than English?

If your documents aren’t in English, you’ll need to have them translated by an official translator and then certified by your local Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as by your nearest Jamaican Mission or Honorary Consulate.
